Back to Square One
Although the latest bout of rain is not welcomed by everyone, it is not unexpected. It probably also warns us of things to come when the winter weather starts to roll in.
It comes also as no surprise then that the 'resolutions' attempted in the early part of the Summer will be put to the test. They have, and they have been found wanting.
Some potholes have been repaired - properly (with a seal) which has been welcomed although as one resident pointed out, but these are mainly on the edges of the tarmac which has been eroded, and where the verge has been worn away. So that has been one decent repair effected, so grateful thanks to the Amey.
Although the recent Parish Council Minutes state that two out of three issues on the Lane had been sorted, that would not be entirely true. Three issues were sorted: the repair to the broken drain at the telecom mast (damaged when the mast was being installed); the blocked drain further down the Land was unblocked and a new pipe and inspection chamber were installed - thanks again to Amey; the blocked and damaged drain was sorted and repaired, thanks to Mr P Hatton.
Several other other important issues remain which threaten more flooding (and which have caused more flooding over the weekend); the flooding on the bend which has been present for almost the whole year in various states of width and depth, which needs urgent attention by SCC; although the two drains under the bridge were unblocked the two drains beyond the bridge on the Cheshire East side are still blocked and are now, after the rain, gushing and flowing down under the bridge. It had been reported that these had been unblocked but there was little evidence to support that assertion or that the land drain had been unblocked as far as the bridge. Clearly these two issues need to be revisited by Cheshire East.
The water coming off the land just above the bridge is no longer a trickle but a noisy flow. Should the two drains under the bridge become blocked again, this will form a very large flood.
A great deal of sand is being washed down from the temporary road just beyond the bend. This seems to have blocked the drains that exist on the bend on the Staffordshire side. The water is now flowing downward from the bend and from the main road and is ponding outside the three houses just before the A531 Road junction.
So, three steps forward and three steps back. Boats and paddles at the ready! Rather than going electric, perhaps we should be going amphibian.
