What we are doing

We are continuing to develop designs for junction improvement to support traffic flow. For reasons beyond our control, we need to return and carry out a small section of ground investigation we were unable to complete in January 2023. This will provide us with samples and allow us to view the structure and record the layout of land.

To carry out this work safely we will need to close the A525 and install traffic lights on the A51, Woore.

This work will take place from Tuesday 2 May to Tuesday 16 May 2023, then returning Tuesday 30 May to Friday 9 June. The location of the road closure and traffic lights will differ on each day as we move along the road.

•    Road closure on the A525 from Tuesday 2 May and Tuesday 16 May between 9pm and 5am
•    Temporary traffic lights on the A51 and A525 junction for 1 night Tuesday 9 May between 9pm and 5am
•    Temporary traffic lights on the A51 from Tuesday 30 May to Friday 9 June between 9am and 3pm.

There are also details of work to take place in Madeley and Whitmore Heath.  So far this has been prescribed as:

The boundary between Swynnerton and Whitmore parishes forms the southern start of this section of Phase 2a. With approximately 9.1 km of track HS2 passes through the parishes of Whitmore and Madeley, within the Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council areas.

After crossing the M6 the route will pass within 1km of Baldwin’s Gate and Madeley Park Wood, which lie to the west, and Whitmore and Madeley, which lie to the east. The route will pass under Whitmore Heath in a tunnel and through Whitmore Wood.

It will then enter the valley of the River Lea, through which the West Coast Main Line, Madeley Chord and Stoke to Market Drayton Railway pass. The route will continue towards the village of Madeley, passing Bar Hill, and pass through part of Barhill Wood.

During the construction of HS2 in this area construction traffic will travel along the A51 and A525, through the village of Woore. Traffic calming and safety measures to manage construction traffic within the village will be put in place and details will be shared here in due course.
