Work in Checkley Lane
Since Monday of this week, Checkley Lane at the Wrinehill end has been closed for 'road works'. It was hoped that this was to fix the flooding issues being experienced, now on a regular basis. However, it was to install a cable to the recently installed telephone mast. The work extends beyond the bridge into Cheshire East. I spoke with the site manager to ask if the work would include sorting out the water gushing out at the base of the mast. His view was that it was nothing to do with his operation, and they were not very pleased about it since it appears that either an underground natural spring has been disturbed or a water pipe has been punctured - as if we did not have enough water swirling around the Lane in the first place! It was understood that the Parish Council had required the NBC to 'ensure' that the work would not make the flooding and surface water drainage conditions in Checkley Lane any worse. Clearly some one has not been paying attention. On the plus side as a result of the current work being undertaken to lay the cable, flooding under the bridge has disappeared for the time being.
