Latest HS2 work on Phase 2a Environmental projects

The ecological ponds were begun recently in Checkley Lane and they are nearing completion. At the moment the ponds are being inlaid with soil so heavy lorries are moving up and down the lane carrying this soil.  It appears that the puddle near theA531 which has been with us for months has drained away - or the drains have been cleared.  There is still a very thick layer of mud on the road which could wash back into the drains  once it rains again.  The kerb stones are now visible in places but the drain under the mud is not. Spooky!

Of more concern is the channel that has been dug from the telecom mast to the drain at the side of the road along the lane just before the bridge.  This is oozing water and the water is washing silt into the drain.  Should this fill up, water will begin to flow into the road.   Currently both drains under the bridge are blocked and there is a flood under the bridge.  More rain will mean deeper water under the bridge.

We are told that the County Council has no money for these repairs and maintenance.  Perhaps local MPs should begin petitioning their government for more funding for local councils, and perhaps local councils should save less.
