It Comes With a Warning

Last Sunday my son (up on a week-end visit) and I had lunch at The Crown in Den Lane. Whilst enjoying roast beef (delicious, by the way)  a visitor came in with an elderly relative, the latter insisting on having one of the specialities of the house - Piri-Piri chicken.  We were very amused when the Maître D stepped in and said, emphatically, 'You don't want that!'  Fortunately he went on to explain that this dish was 'renowned for being very hot and spicy and that it would take some people a week to recover if they were to decide  against his advice.  So thank you Mike for the warning.  May the adventurous take heed and be warned.  If not be assured that ice cubes, yoghurt and cold beer are at hand.  Enjoy!

Some Repair Work along Checkley Lane

Last week the Checkley Lane at the Wrinehill end was closed for part of Thursday.  It was eventually discovered that parts of the eroded sides of the Lane were repaired.  The material did not look like tarmac but some kind of composite, and the work looked a little more comprehensive than we have been used to.  Hopefully it will last longer.  It was noted that the edges of the repair had not been sealed so it will be interesting to see if that makes a difference.  anyway, the areas adjacent to the puddle have been improved for now, so many thanks. However, it was noted that both grids under the bridge at the Wrinehill end are now solidly blocked and need  a de-sludge if flooding in this  area is to be prevented during the next episode of heavy rain. It was also noted that water is still coming from the area of the telecom mast and feeding into the grid at the side of the road.  This could be as a result of a burst pipe or an interrupted natu...

Removed

Residents will be pleased to know that the fly-tipped rubbish left on Checkley Lane was removed today.  I am sure that residents would like to thank the Environmental Health Department  clearance team for their prompt action.  Hopefully they will follow the lead given so that the perpetrators will be apprehended, so that they will think twice before repeating the offence.

Update on the SIDS and Traffic Calming

Re the issues raised about speeding in Den and Checkley Lanes, Neil Bullock who is involved with the speed watch group has reported the following:   'Two points to make here, one the Community Speed watch site on Den Lane has not been used recently in common with all other sites in the Village owing to the fact that it has not been possible to put together the requisite number of volunteers to mount a session. If any Den Lane residents would care to join our Speed watch Group, they would be more than welcome. Second, the speed limit past Fog Cottages is 60 mph i.e. the national speed limit. Any requests to reduce this would need to be directed to Staffordshire County Council - it is well outside the purview of the Parish Council'. **********   Any takers??  It would be helpful if residents could report this themselves to the Highways department of Staffordshire County Council in the first instance, and if the Speedwatch group could do the same.

Fly-tipping update in Checkley Lane

Today I went to see if the rubbish had been removed from Checkley Lane.  It had not.  I did manage to collect  a letter with a name and address on it.  From the rubbish dumped it was noted that it belonged to a family with a cat and a young child (male).  Their TV licence had not been paid and they lived in Stoke-on-Trent.   I have reported the incident directly to the Head of Environmental Health at the NBC and the Head of Highways at SCC.  It was impossible to report this issues either by phone or on line to either council.   So we will have to wait to see what Monday brings!
